November 2015 Metrics

Overview:
  • Orange County Transportation Authority bus ridership levels have been drastically reduced since 2008. Although fiscal year 2011-2012 showed some slight growth, the following two years have shown slight declines. This trend has persisted in FY 2014-2015 where total bus ridership was measured at 47,069,457, a nearly 4 percent reduction compared to FY 2013-2014 and staggering reduction of 27 percent compared to FY 2008-2009.
  • After muted bus ridership growth in the beginning of 2015 was followed by a large jump in ridership during the month of March; bus ridership levels have experienced a downward trend in recent more months yet October 2015’s reading of 4,056,283 indicates a continued resurgence in ridership levels. October 2015’s ridership levels represent an increase of 184,544 compared to September 2015 yet a large decrease of 362,696 when compared to October 2014 levels.
  • Metrolink ridership rates have shown great performance in 2013, but struggled slightly through 2014 with declining usage. In June 2015, the average ridership for the Orange County line increased from 222,929 in May 2015 to 236,707 in June 2015, an increase of 6.2 percent. For the Inland Empire to Orange County line, ridership increased from 106,663 to 114,832, an increase of 7.7 percent. And finally for the 91 line, ridership decreased from 65,408 in May 2015 to 58,917 in June 2015, a decrease of 9.9 percent.
  • Both Foothill and San Joaquin toll roads have trended upward through 2014 and into 2015. In October 2015 transactions on the Foothill toll road increased by 13,548 since October 2014, and the San Joaquin toll road is 7,705 users above its ridership for the same time period.
